backtracking 8/8: sticks and stones

And finally, the reason for our trip. The Sticks and Stones exhibition!

Welcome to Ciel Gallery.

Seems as though I'm often the outsider looking in...

Ciel Gallery owner Pamela Pardue Goode and her charming father.
My Jerzy sitting back and observing the evening.

My work and the wonderful work of Susan Springer Anderson. Followed by some of my favourite pieces from the show...

Follow this link and go to page 70 to read an article in the April issue of Today's Charlotte Woman. I was pleased to see a photo of one of my pieces and a paragraph describing my influences and my work (taken from my website I guess).

backtracking 7/8: mint museum of craft + design

We also squeezed in a visit to the Mint Museum of Craft + Design which I thoroughly enjoyed. Here are some of my favourite pieces. I seemed to be in a glass and metal mood. Must have been the influence of the city. The last two photos are jewellery pieces and the very last one is made entirely of hypodermic needles.

backtracking 6/8: sparkly charlotte

March 6th. On to Charlotte! A very contemporary city...clean and sparkly. Lots of reflective glass and some great public sculpture (including some pieces I recognized by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro and Swiss scultor Jean Tinguley).

backtracking 5/8: the angel oak

Before we headed to Charlotte we made a side trip to the Angel Oak Tree, believed to be over 1500 years old. When I was alone with the tree I just placed my hands on its trunk and wept. It made quite an impact on me...

backtracking 4/8: charleston

And then Charleston! We were smitten. What a lovely, elegant city. My favourite thing about it is all its nooks and crannies.

And its architecture. Those verandas! The grand...

And the modest. Just my style.

Couldn't resist the birds. Pelicans are very exotic for us.

I can only describe it as a visual feast. We stayed a day and a half and then it was time to leave. But we shall return!
