multiples

Jo's last post got me thinking about repetition in nature and multiples in general. This is a metal piece I found laying on the road many years ago while I was attending art school. For some reason it interested me and I asked a friend to make multiples of it in the jewellery studio. I wasn't sure what I would do with these pieces and eventually I created a kind of bouquet from the 13 new pieces that had been made. For the past 12 years they have been displayed individually, each "flower" with its group of "stems" side by side, stapled onto my wall. A strange decoration indeed, but pleasing to me. But now I have taken them down and brought them together to be photographed in a bouquet. I like the bunchiness of them.

I like the shape too...it's like a beautiful ancient 'symbol'.
Kate, you never cease to amaze me with your talent...these pieces are really amazing.
Have they been cast out of metal?

Hmmm...'Repetition in Nature', I might dwell on those words for awhile :)

I think they look great as a bouquet... a funky metal flower arrangement. They are so organic... they look like they may go to seed! What a great decorative idea,
keep up the fun posts... love your blog!

jo...I thought of it as some kind of ancient symbol, some kind of sign, or a message, when I found it on the road. Actually, I think it is probably the clasp of a purse or something :). The pieces are cast in bronze and the wire is a brass wire (I think...it's been awhile).

carol...love what you said about the pieces looking like they may go to seed. Now that's a compliment! Thanks and keep visiting!

They are so effective in a bunch. Unusual and intriguing.

OH I just love those. It kind of gives me the same affect as watching a fish tank...a little hypnotic. I like it!

robyn...thanks! I like them in a bunch too. They seem friendlier and less strange in a bunch. Although I do like them lined up on my wall as well!

Vanessa...I know exactly what you mean about being hypnotized. When I was choosing photos to make a montage, I was mesmorized by them as well. Pulled into the swirliness of them.
