inspired by red shoes

I wasn't sure what to post today until I was inspired by uschi's post. It's all about life as art and seeing the things that surround you in a different light. She talks about viewing your home as if it belonged to someone else and suggested imagining what the people who live there must be like. She photographed her own wonderful shoes. I believe that you can tell a lot about a person from the shoes they wear. So I took a look at mine through new eyes. Rather uninspiring I must say. Those of you with fashionable shoes will probably be horrified. I'm not really a shoe person and comparatively I probably own very few. I don't think I've actually purchased any new shoes for at least 5 years now. I have specially-made orthotics that only fit into certain kinds of shoes, which does limit me. High heels are out! As a matter of fact, even low heels are out. Mostly because I prefer flats. Very practical, me. As evidenced by my shoe collection.

Here is every single pair of shoes that I own, including some that I no longer wear but can't bear to part with. All size 7.

You do like practical shoes! I'm a size 7 too.....I used to be way into fashion, and I wore pointy toed high heeled shoes.......but ever since I moved to the mountains I became a lot more practical. The pointy toes are gathering dust as I type :)

I have to say I love the way you photgraphed and designed the layout of the photos... even if I do think some of your shoes are rather less than impressive....I too, am the practical shoe type, no heels for me... I think you have just given me a very good ATC idea! love your blog!

Kate, this is fun.
I have a thing for red shoes!
I just bought a pair of Moroccan Mens slippers in ORANGE that I love...and of course my beloved Doc Martin's....Gee, you may have started something here!
You have lovely narrow feet :)

Hehee, Kate, this is fun! I just come back from counting my own...17 pairs...some that I don't wear any more like you ( but who knows)...size 8 ( ;) bigfoot, I know)...without heels, too. I'm used to look for shoes that I can imagine to wear for at least the next 5 years ( because size 8 has a reduced designer's program, bahh!)
I like your red shoes!!
Look at this:
the title says: "I want those"

Another size 7 here. I'm no longer a shoe person. It's now comfort before beauty.

I love those red shoes- red shoes aren't boring!! Beige with the nice straps are cool too.

Practical can be funky- love the shoes at Cydwoq.com for that. Art meets shoe.

Thanks all for your responses to my shoe post. I must say that I felt quite vulnerable exposing my less-than-impressive shoes like that. Although it seems that a lot of us are the practical shoe types (or becoming that way).

ww...Your poor size 7 pointy-toed dust collectors! I imagine moving to the mountains has affected a lot of things you do...but in a good way.

carol...good luck with your ATCs. I'd love to see what you do!

jo...orange moroccan slippers! How fun! Did you notice my Doc Martins in the top right corner, which I sadly can't wear anymore because my orthotics don't fit in. They are in such disuse that they have a patina on the eyelets. And in those red shoes my feet look deceptively narrow. In fact, they are narrow at the back and wide where my toes spread out which makes shoe shopping a challenge!

uschi...thanks so much for the inspiration and that great link to "Ich will die" (a good phrase to learn!).

robyn...a fellow size 7-er. I'm with you on comfort before fashion. That has always been my mantra.

shayla...thanks for your support about my shoes. I guess I have some that aren't too bad! And what a fantastic link that you shared. I covet those shoes! They look comfortable and funky! I'll have to start saving my pennies...

aww, don't make me feel so bad.. my size 10 end up going barefoot most of the time.. cause they forget we exist.. I am in shoe envy now... maybe I'll just paint my feet red!!!

gwen...shame on those shoe companies for ignoring the size 10s of the world! Shayla gave me a great shoe link. Save your paint and follow the link to find some great red shoes (the colour of your raspberries) that I really like and are made up to size 12: http://cydwoq.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CYDWOQ&Product_Code=WCY-BOUT&Category_Code=WCY-SHOES
